The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
