The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
