Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 Within gardens and springs 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
