The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
