The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 No human soul but hath a guardian over it. 4 So let man see from what he is created! 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 Issuing from (the pelvis) between the backbone and the ribs. 7 God has certainly power to bring him back (from the dead). 8 on the Day when consciences are examined, 9 he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 it is no merriment. 14 As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, 15 And I plot a plot (against them). 16 So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a while. 17
