Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
