۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 What then, shall we not die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
