The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
