[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 when Shuaib said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 177 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 178 so fear God, and obey me. 179 And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ "Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud). 181 Weigh with correct scales: 182 "And defraud not people by reducing their things, nor do evil, making corruption and mischief in the land. 183 Have fear of the One who has created you and the generations that lived before you." 184 They said: thou art but of the bewitched; 185 And thou art but a human being like unto us, and we deem thee to be of the liars. 186 Then make fragments of the heaven fall upon us, if thou art of the truthful. 187 He said: "My Lord knows best what ye do." 188 But they belied him, then the punishment of the Day of Shadow (raining fire) seized them. Truly, it was the punishment of a dreadful day. 189 Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers. 190 And most surely your Lord is Mighty, the Merciful. 191
