The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
