The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 save those that pray 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
