Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
