(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And orchards and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
