The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 such as, "For what crime were they murdered?" 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 The closing night, 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 Your companion (Muhammad) does not suffer from any mental illness 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
