The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
