Alshu'araa' 7 of 11

The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
