The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
