The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
