The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
