Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the luminious Book. 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
