The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
