The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
