Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
