The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
