Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
