And when the sent angels came to the house of Lut. 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 "And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 it is still there on the highway -- 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
