Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
