The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
