The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
