۞ When [Jesus] the son of Mary is held up as an example, your people raise an outcry on this, 57 and say, 'What, are our gods better, or he?' They cite not him to thee, save to dispute;. nay, but they are a people contentious. 58 Jesus was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel. 59 And had We so willed, [O you who worship angels,] We could indeed have made you into angels succeeding one another on earth! 60 And he ['Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)] shall be a known sign for (the coming of) the Hour (Day of Resurrection) [i.e. 'Iesa's (Jesus) descent on the earth]. Therefore have no doubt concerning it (i.e. the Day of Resurrection). And follow Me (Allah) (i.e. be obedient to Allah and do what He orders you to do, O mankind)! This is the Straight Path (of Islamic Monotheism, leading to Allah and to His Paradise). 61 And let not Satan bar you [from it] - for, verily, he is your open foe! 62 And when Eisa came to them with clear signs, he said, “I have come to you with wisdom, and to explain to you some of the matters regarding which you dispute; therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 63 Assuredly God is my Lord and your Lord; therefore serve Him; this is a straight path.' 64 Yet the parties differed among themselves. So woe to those who did evil among the punishment of a Painful Day. 65 Are they looking for aught but the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they are not aware? 66 Friends on that day shall be foes to one another, but the god-fearing. 67
