He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
