The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 will be easy, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
