Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
