The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
