Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
