Wherefore admonish thou! thou art not, by the grace of thy Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or do they say: 'He is a poet, we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him' 30 Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant. 31 Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say: He has forged it. Nay! they do not believe. 33 Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful. 34 Or were they created of themselves? Or are they the creators? 35 Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith. 36 Do they own the treasures of your Lord? Have they any authority over God? 37 Or, do they have a ladder on which they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Or, has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Or that the Ghaib (unseen) is with them, and they write it down? 41 Seek they to lay a plot? Then those who disbelieve it is they who shall be plotted against. 42 Or do they have a god apart from God? He is too exalted for what they associate with Him! 43 (So obstinate are they that) even if they were to see some fragments of the sky falling down they would still say: “It is only a mass of cloud.” 44 Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck, 45 the day when their guile shall avail them naught, and they shall not be helped. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 Now await in patience the command of thy Lord: for verily thou art in Our eyes: and celebrate the praises of thy Lord the while thou standest forth, 48 And in the night time, also glorify His Praises, and at the setting of the stars. 49
