a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 "We are ruined, 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
