He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
