۞ And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
