This surely is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe: 192 The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down 193 To thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish. 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 Had We revealed it to a non-Arab 198 who would have read it to them, they (pagans) would not have believed in it. 199 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not. 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 Do they wish to hasten Our punishment? 204 Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years, 205 and then what they were promised comes to them, 206 Of what avail shall their enjoyment be to them? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 The satans did not bring down this (Clear Book), 210 for, neither does it suit their ends, nor is it in their power [to impart it to man]: 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 and be kind to your believing followers. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 Put your trust in the Mighty One, the Merciful, 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 And watches your movements among those who prostrate in prayer. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you (of him) upon whom the Shaitans descend? 221 They descend on every forgerer steeped in sin, 222 who lends an ear to them, and most of them are liars. 223 And the Poets,- It is those straying in Evil, who follow them: 224 Do you not see that in every valley they roam 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
