The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
