The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
