The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
