The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
