۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 We appointed them as leaders to guide the people through Our command and sent them revelation to strive for good deeds, worship their Lord, and pay religious tax. Both of them were Our worshipping servants. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
