۞ Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
