The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 And when the souls shall be joined with their bodies; 7 And when the girl-child who was buried alive is asked. 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 by the night when it approaches 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 And your companion is not [at all] mad. 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Where to are you then heading? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
