Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
