The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
