The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
